The many things you can do with this skill replace 
Biologist in all aspects except the bonus to the Oxygenated Ducts, and give you surgeries on top, as well as a bonus to healing (which one feels should have belonged to the 
Nurse).
All of these skills allow you to read what those "tasty candies" in the Medbay actually do, and should yet, ideally, be combined. But if required to choose, Finola should pick this one first.
