Stephen's signature skill which, at last, turns the badass cook into an interesting and useful character. The fact that another crewmember has to have the skill you want to learn, and be alive, will not let you fill in missing roles, but it does serve well as a backup if you have inactives - or
Mush you are about to kill - or just need more people with crucial everyday skills like
Pilot or
Technician.
For personal
from fighting aliens, Stephen has an incentive to learn
Astrophysicist to increase the number of expeditions, and
Survivalist or even
Botanist to secure a place on the team.
To just help the ship, in a general way, the best support skill would be
Logistics Expert.
Most of all, though, this skill can be used in very interesting ways when copying rare signature skills, as in having two
Genius crewmembers, two
Shrinks boosting morale, two
Trackers comparing lists, seven cameras from
Paranoid, or up to twelve hydropots from two people with
Green Thumbs.
The effect of
Mankind's only hope doesn't stack, but if Chun is inactive and about to die, you can replace her.
Using your apprenticeship skill costs 1
, and it gives you a list of the skills available in the room for you to pick, similar to the normal skill selection.
