Illnesses

From Mushpedia
Jump to: navigation, search

The crew of the Daedalus, being (mostly) human, is susceptible to a myriad of Illnesses, a type of negative status which closely interfaces with the game's Health system. Illnesses are divided into three types; physiological Icon Diseases, psychological Icon Disorders and physical Icon Injuries. The Icon Mush are immune to all but injuries (with the exception of sepsis Icon Confirm: Confirmation needed.).

The distinction between the three types of Illness is as follows;

  • Icon Diseases are caused by germs, viruses, parasites and the like, generally resulting from unsanitary conditions. Visiting Swamp, Forest or Insect zones during an expedition, eating hazardous foodstuffs like Icon Alien Steaks and alien fruit, doing the thing with a diseased partner, and the misfortune of randomly getting sick are ways to attain a disease. There is also a small chance that a disease spreads by air if infected person walks into a room with other people. Diseases typically come with an array of symptoms such as Vomiting and affect Health Point Health and Action Point. Diseases can be cured using the Icon Medikit, certain medicines the effects of which are randomised in each game or, rarely, by the passing of time.
  • Icon Disorders are largely caused by the stresses of the mission, i.e. Panic Attacks or seeing people die in front of you, and mainly affect your max Morale Morale or forbid you from doing certain actions, while situationally featuring various disturbing symptoms. These are cured by lying down in a room containing a Icon Shrink for several cycles, or by specific randomized medicines and alien fruit.
  • Icon Injuries are caused almost entirely by either being successfully attacked or failing an attack,and hurting yourself in the process. They're also the only Illnesses that effect Icon Mush, as they still inhabit fragile, human bodies. Injuries are largely statuses which affect Health Point Health and Action Point, but also give other nasty effects which severely limit what a character can do. While not always noted in the in-game description, injuries also reduce the character's Max. Health Point, an effect which increases in severity the larger the number of injuries gets. Injuries are remedied via Surgery, which is performed with the Surgical Pod in Medlab, or via DIY Surgery (the latter being more Action Point intensive). Outside of the Medlab, a Icon Medic can perform surgery anywhere if they hold the Icon Medikit.
