Support Drone
In-game Description Maintenance Stats
The best friend of the man-about-ship, this drone can carry out many tasks in your place.
  • The Drone carries out actions similar to those of the crew.
  • Try to repair the defective equipment in the room before you leave.

Extra drone.png

The Support Drone is a robot designed by Icon Terrence which can perform generic utility tasks, like repairs, across the ship. The Daedalus starts with one Drone already built and active, and additional ones can be created via the Extra Drone NERON Project and Icon Blueprints provided by the Icon Robotics Expert skill. Drones, like Icon Schrödinger, can be carried in your inventory and dropped off in any room.

Actions

Each Drone will at each cycle change perform action(s) in it's room, in that order :

  1. Board a Patrol Ship if there is one operational in the room, there are attacker, and drone has the Pilot upgrade.
Icon Confirm: Chosen randomly, and does not check for no charges left.
    • With NERON project Magnetic Net the patrol ship follows the Daedalus during the move, unlike with human pilots that dock.
    • If a player boards with a drone in inventory, it will perform it's actions all the same.
Icon Confirm: The human rule for magnetic net applies.
If it's the Pasiphae, Shoot does not apply and it does not Retrieve.
    • While flying actions become :
    1. Repair if the spacecraft broke.
    2. Shoot an attacker Icon Confirm: at random if any left and charges left, Icon Confirm: With the same success rate as a Icon Pilot player.
    3. Dock back.
  2. Extinguish a fire if there is one and drone has the Firefighter upgrade.
Icon Confirm: Always succesfull, like Icon Firefighter players.
  3. Attempt a Repair, in that order :
    1. Doors.
    2. Equipment. Does not require Icon Scrap Metal for spacecrafts, unlike players.
    3. Items. Icon Bug: Can repair a hidden object. It remains hidden, but the log is not and gives it away.
Base success rate and % improvement per fail correspeond to that of a non-Icon Technician player.
Failed attempts are silent, just like they are for players. Only the Turbo message may give it away.
    Special cases :
Cameras count as : Icon Confirm: item, or equipment? in case of the Icon Bug: looks-installed-but-is-not when dropped when picking Icon Paranoid.
Other Drones count as Icon TODO: ?.
Swedish Sofas count as Icon TODO: ?.
The Tabulatrix counts as Icon TODO: ?.
  4. Move randomly into an adjacent room.
Happens even if it's in a player's inventory.

Order of Drones vs ship breakages:

  1. Broken O2 tanks leak 1 extra unit of oxygen before a drone gets to repair them. In order not to lose any O2, the crew has to repair them manually.
  2. Otoh, tank breakage also seems to happen beforehand. I.e. if a drone is present when a tank breaks, it can repair it immediately. Icon Confirm: observed once
  3. All other Mishaps happen afterward, so
Drones extinguish fires before they get to spread / new ones are created.
Their presence does not prevent them or their consequences, in particular damage from new fires.
It can appear to void their repair actions, especially if the misphap has no log. E.g. a repaired door can 'remains' broken.

Upgrades

A single Support Drone can be upgraded multiple times by a Icon Robotics Expert. Each upgrade takes 2 Icon Scrap Metal. The same upgrade cannot be applied twice.

Available upgrades:

  • Firefighter: Can extinguish fires. The drone also becomes immune to fire.
  • Turbo: 80% of changes to perform 2 actions instead of 1 each cycle.
  • Pilot: Patrol ships are usable for the drones.

Tips

Stopicon.png Drones cannot break randomly. They can only be broken by fire or sabotage, which is not announced by NERON, or by Icon Green Jelly, which *is* announced by NERON.
  • Drones do not act as characters or Icon Cameras for the purpose of action privacy, meaning they will not affect Icon Covert or Icon Secret actions.
  • Drones start with the same efficiency as a non-technician, but their efficiency increases with time. After a few repairs, they have a permanent 99% chance to succeed all repairs.
  • Try to keep tabs on where Drones are, as they have a habit of wandering aimlessly around the ship, so it might take a while to find one when you need it. Keeping a Drone in inventory won't stop it from moving away on cycle change.
  • Drones are the preferred means of repairing Patrol Ships and the Pasiphae as, unlike humans, they don't need Scrap Metal to do so.

List of attributes

  • This item is can become Icon Broken, requiring repairs before it can be used again.
  • This item can be broken (rather than destroyed) when exposed to by Icon fire.
  • This item grants a passive benefit when deployed in a room.
  • This item cannot be hidden.
  • When examined, this item displays the following text:
The support drone fulfills the automatic maintenance objective planned for the Magellan project. Employing the Beta-Slave protocol it is almost possible to replace a human being. Aside from the minor issue of building the thing...
