The Daedalus has three key resources that must be maintained at appropriate levels for the mission to succeed: Oxygen Oxygen, Fuel Fuel and Armor Armor.

Oxygen

The most difficult resource to maintain an appropriate level of is Oxygen Oxygen. At the end of each cycle the ship's Oxygen resource is reduced by 1, with an additional loss of 1 per broken Oxygen Tank (max. -3 per cycle). Oxygen loss is not affected by crew size or by fires.

When the Oxygen level reaches Low Oxygen 0, a random crew member will run out of breath and die every cycle.

  • Holding an Icon Oxygen Capsule will prevent asphyxiation, but consume the capsule in return.
    • The system prioritizes killing characters without Oxygen Capsules before they start being used up.
  • Flying a patroller or going on an exploration will not protect against oxygen death.
  • On day change, asphyxiation occurs before plants produce their oxygen.

Oxygen can be extracted into item form from the Oxygen Tank, creating an Icon Oxygen Capsule. It cannot be dropped by conventional means and must be injected back into the tank instead.

Oxygen Sources

Oxygen Oxygen can be obtained from plants. Each healthy adult plant produces 1 Oxygen on day change. Plants cannot fully replenish spent oxygen in the beginning, limited by the starting number of Icon HydroPots, but given needed care and various bonuses (Icon Ian's Icon Green Thumb for 2 more HydroPots, Extra Hydropots NERON Project for an extra 3), they may cover the crew's oxygen needs in the long run.

The more reliable, but also more dangerous way to obtain Oxygen Oxygen is planetary exploration. If the analysis of a planet indicates the presence of oxygen, the expedition can gain from 0 to 24 Oxygen units depending on chance.

Fuel

Fuel Fuel is necessary to move the Daedalus. The maximum fuel level is 32 units, which should be sufficient for an average game. A broken fuel tank does not leak fuel, it only becomes inaccessible for manual fuel operation (extracting and inserting). However, eventually an Expedition may be necessary to replenish fuel, as certain planet zones (Hydrocarbon, Mountain, Caverns and Shipwreck) are the main source of Fuel in the game, besides occasional fuel that can be found in Space Capsules.

Armor

The Armor Armor of the ship represents the consistency of its construction. At the beginning of the game, the Daedalus has the maximum amount, 100 Armor. If Armor drops to 0, the ship breaks apart and the entire crew is killed, instantly ending the game. Armor is damaged by attacking Hunter icon.png hunters and asteroids, which is counted at every cycle change.

The frequency of hunters and asteroids makes it necessary to repair the ship. Anyone can attempt repairs with Scrap Metal anywhere on the ship, restoring 5 Armor and consuming one Scrap Metal if successful. The base chance of repair success is 25%. It is not influenced by the Icon Technician skill, but it is raised to 37% with the Wrench item. The Oscilloscope raises the Armor restored by a repairing action to 10, and wielding both the Wrench and the Oscilloscope raises the success rate to 75%.
