The Old T-Shirt can only be used in the construction of a 
White Flag. This is useful when no 
Diplomat is available, since, like diplomats, the white flag greatly reduces the risks of damage during expeditions.
On the other hand, the White Flag's 
Blueprint uses up another, far more precious item: the 
Soap. Since hygiene is regarded as highly important, at least untill all 
Mush are dead, the Old T-Shirt is often left unused in a corner of the ship, possibly until a late stage of the game.
