The Thermosensor is a piece of exploration gear, allowing you to target certain zones in priority:

Diplomat in the expedition crew, it can be great to bring back more
Alien Steaks, artifacts (with
Intelligent Life), find a missing companion, or to avoid more dangerous zones (such as
Low Temperatures,
Oceanic,
Forest, etc.)
This does item does not increase the amount of items received from the aforementioned zones, it only increases the chance to find those zones.
