Research

The Research Lab terminal can be accessed in the Laboratory. It brings up options for fighting Mush, increasing the glory for Humans and gives a couple useful commodities.

A BIOS setting can limit research to be done only by Biologists and Medics. You have to be clean (not dirty) to be able to do research, so wearing the Stainproof Apron when participating is recommended.

Many of the research options only become available when certain items or people are present. If these conditions are not met, the research option is not visible, but the progress made on them is preserved.

  • The most important items for research are
  • The presence of Zhong Chun in the Laboratory, can be replaced by a Xyloph DB entry later
  • The death of a Mush agent (the place of death is irrelevant, it can be even outside Daedalus)

Participating in research costs 2 AP, and the efficiency depends on the skills Biologist and Medic. The CPU Priority settings in BIOS can also affect this.

The glory gained for certain research projects is immediately obtained by all living humans upon completion, and an additional glory can be earned when reaching Sol or Eden. Chun earns an additional 4 glory each time a research requiring her presence is completed. Finola earns an additional 3 glory for all Mush-related research.

List of Research projects

There are a total of 23 possible researches. Hover over the image to see the description of a research.

Mush Sample Spore sucker.png Spore Sucker 0 Produces a Spore Extractor

Pheromodem

Humans can access the Mush channel (read and write), but their names are obfuscated:

  • Everyone talks as "Mush"
  • The names of the participants are scrambled, but the number of letters remain the same (including space). This affects all previous communication on Mush channel as well.
    • 3 letters: Hua, Ian
    • 4 letters: Chao, Chun
    • 5 letters: Paola
    • 6 letters: Finola, Frieda, Gioele, Janice, Jin Su, Raluca, Roland
    • 7 letters: Kuan Ti, Stephen, Eleesha
    • 8 letters: Terrence

The Mush see their channel just like before.
