| {{H:title|Finola Keegan's article "From the spore to non-life" is a seminal work in the field of Mushology. It created a branch of science dealing with aggregation organisms. Aggregators, in effect, are strains of viruses which allow the partial splitting of DNA or RNA strands in the host and extract their genetic makeup in order to alter themselves or their genetic pool [...] This article leads directly to the creation of a costly item : The Mycoscan. Allows the detection of spores on a healthy crew member. Gives 3 glory|[[Image:Mycoscan.png]]}}

| {{H:title|Some of the melanine secreted by Chun seems to be used by her liver to secrete a completely unique bacteria which has been named ZC16H. It seems that this bacteria reacts violently when placed in contact with a Mush sample. It literally digests the fungus and then reproduces at an alarming rate. We must learn what affects the treatment of the melanine, and this could be the key to creating a Mush antidote! The findings of this study could be critical and could make the whole team famous. Based on the oscillation coefficient of the Alpha pheromone and the rate of toxin emission, it is theoretically possible to create a miniature alarm which will go off automatically if a Mush agent spikes someone with a spore within a monitored zone. Research

The Research Lab terminal can be accessed in the Laboratory. It brings up options for fighting Mush, increasing the glory for Humans and gives a couple useful commodities.

A BIOS setting can limit research to be done only by Biologists and Medics. You have to be clean (not dirty) to be able to do research, so wearing the Stainproof Apron when participating is recommended.

Many of the research options only become available when certain items or people are present. If these conditions are not met, the research option is not visible, but the progress made on them is preserved.

  • The most important items for research are
  • The presence of Zhong Chun in the Laboratory, can be replaced by a Xyloph DB entry later
  • The death of a Mush agent (the place of death is irrelevant, it can be even outside Daedalus)

Participating in research costs 2 AP, and the efficiency depends on the skills Biologist and Medic. The CPU Priority settings in BIOS can also affect this.

The glory gained for certain research projects is immediately obtained by all living humans upon completion, and an additional glory can be earned when reaching Sol or Eden. Chun earns an additional 4 glory each time a research requiring her presence is completed. Finola earns an additional 3 glory for all Mush-related research.

List of Research projects

There are a total of 23 possible researches. Hover over the image to see the description of a research.

Requires Image Name Effectiveness Glory Details
Anabolics.png Anabolics 0 Generates 4 Anabolics.
Mush Sample Antispore gas.png Antispore Gas 3 The maximum number of Mush spores generated per day is reduced by 2.
Constipaspore serum.png Constipaspore Serum 3 Causes spore extraction to cost 4ap instead of 2.

Pheromodem

Humans can access the Mush channel (read and write), but their names are obfuscated:

  • Everyone talks as "Mush"
  • The names of the participants are scrambled, but the number of letters remain the same (including space). This affects all previous communication on Mush channel as well.
    • 3 letters: Hua, Ian
    • 4 letters: Chao, Chun
    • 5 letters: Paola
    • 6 letters: Finola, Frieda, Gioele, Janice, Jin Su, Raluca, Roland
    • 7 letters: Kuan Ti, Stephen, Eleesha
    • 8 letters: Terrence

The Mush see their channel just like before.
