Wang Chao is assigned to crew protection detail. His chaotic personality makes him as much of a threat to his allies as his enemies. Despite errors made in his youth, Chao managed to earn the trust of his team by organising the emergency evacuation convoy from the Daedalus and successfully protecting them against ex-members of the SDF.
How to play
Chao's job is to k̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶o̶n̶e protect the crew from the Mush. Once the Mush have been eradicated, his job evolves into an expedition leader or turret runner based on his skillset. (He also makes for a great coffee barista, though he would not admit it.)
On the other hand he is first in succession for Commander, and should be ready to inherit all of Jin Su's powers and responsibilities.
Bronze
- Shooter: Chao's initial skill, and one of two skills that still benefit the crew once the Mush are removed. Does NOT stack well with a Pilot Mage Book in his case, since Chao cannot gain from beds, unless you plan on getting the bonus from Logistics Expert .
- Survivalist: The second skill that Chao can use to the ship's benefit. A sub-par only Bronze skill, however. Do not take it if you are not Silver.
- Wrestler: The big brother of Solid, this skill means you are always dangerous and ready to kick people around, as well as freeing precious inventory space.
- Torturer: Chao's signature skill. For every 1 HP the target is missing, they will reveal one previous action. (If they are missing 5 , you will see their last five actions etc.) A great way to confirm if that person really did get dirty repairing a door.
- Crazy Eye: A good skill, but not worth taking as Bronze. Combine this with Plastenite Armor or Hard Boiled to greatly improve your survivability.
- Intimidating: A situational skill. The benefit a Bronze Chao gains from this skill are outweighed by the ability to just punch/shoot the guy.
Silver
- Shooter / Survivalist: Provides better expeditions as well as combat prowess. This is the most pro-ship Chao can get, and only costs 5 .
- Wrestler / Torturer: Rough someone up before getting information out of them! Just be careful you don't murder people 'accidentally'.
- Shooter / Torturer: Good Mush hunter and still versatile. Using Shooter with a Natamy Rifle is very effective at killing discovered mush!
Gold
- Drop Crazy Eye and Intimidating if you want to be useful to the ship in the long-term. Drop Shooter and Survivalist if you want to be a lean, mean, Mush hunting machine.
Mush
- As Chao, your role puts you in a good position to infiltrate the Mush hunt, while your trigger-happy style and occupation as Torturer can be used as an excuse to get rid of a few 'suspicious' humans - as long as you do not overdo it. When not 'hunting' yourself, your mobility makes you a good choice for odd jobs around the ship, giving you excuses to become Dirty at times.
- Mush Chao' greatest challenge is his lack of without nutrition from food, which will make things like a Wrestler rampage harder to pull off (yet still very effective!) without the aid of Phagocyte - and you might need that skill and maybe Fertile only to simulate gains from food, as the lack of sleep also makes it easier to estimate the amount of you should have.
Useful tips
- Being Hyperactive, Chao cannot gain from beds.
- However, he can gain from Logistics and can thus actually have more and than most people if kept in a room with a Logistics Expert.
- Because Chao has a high potential to break something aboard the ship, people are more willing to kill him if he jumps the Blaster. Form or join a tribunal so you can have support when the death threats start flying.
- Chao's bonus means he can ferry items around the ship more efficiently. Always check if there is something to take along.

- The Blast-IOM proved ineffective. Chao saw his entire commando unit massacred in a surprise attack on Tau-Ceti. Chao had to feign death to evade the rebels and await Sergeant Hogan's late arrival in the area. The surviving rebels were executed but Chao remains convinced that this massacre and numerous others in this war were orchestrated by the federation or the Mush..

- Having returned to the Magellan team, Chao and Derek learn of an objective change on the project. The Ark World is now charged with the mission of protecting the human race from the Mush. According to them, the Mush has already taken control of the guerilla rebels and the federation. The new ark is named Daedalus...

- When he discovers that the new superior sent by the Federation is a Mush, Chao eliminated him without the consent of his colleagues. This led to the degeneration of his relationship with the Federation who command SDF operatives in that location to put the project on hold. Chao then helps the remaining members of his team to make their escape from the Daedalus.
